Research Support

The Center for Equine Health disseminates funds generated through grants, gifts, donations and professional services rendered to research.  Decisions on which research projects to fund are made by a Scientific Advisory Board. The board is comprised of UC Davis faculty members and equine practitioners, with approval by the CEH director.

Funds generated through grants, gifts, donations and our continuing care boarding services are applied directly to research.  Since 1984, the CEH has funded over 560 research projects with total budgets exceeding $12.4 million.  Other uses for these funds include:

  • Training of equine specialists for board-certification
  • Fellowships to support training of academic and research scientists
  • Scholarships for equine-oriented veterinary students
  • Classes in continuing education for practicing veterinarians and educational seminars for the general public
  • Development of new technologies for the care and treatment of horses
  • Development in areas that apply directly to the care and treatment of patients at the UC Davis veterinary hospital
  • Publication of a broad array of educational materials for the general public and veterinary professionals
